Melee VS. Ranged

Melee VS. Ranged

1. INTRODUCTION
2. MISCONCEPTIONS
3. ITEMS

5. ORB WALK
6. FINAL THOUGHTS
7. PLEASE READ

INTRODUCTION

MELEE:
What is melee?

Melee refers to one of two attack types. Melee is the attack type that a close range combatant uses to physically strike a target unit. Generally this ranges from an attack range of 128, with the exception of a few heroes. Most melee heroes tend to be strength or agility orientated.

RANGED
What is ranged?

Ranged is referencing the second of the attack types. Ranged attacks are conjured items or energy that is slung at a range to inflict damage to the target. Ranged attacks can very greatly in the overall length of attack. Ranged heroes are commonly intelligence or agility based.

I bet you’re wondering why I listed this basic information. Well why isn’t this relevant? Knowing the difference between these mechanics can make or break a game. I often see a very irrelevant section in guides consisting of pros and cons, I find this to just be a filler to make the guides longer. Within these guides lye a very common misconception, example:

PROS:

  • Blah Blah Blah
  • Blah Blah Blah
  • Blah Blah Blah

CONS:

  • MELEE
  • Blah Blah Blah
  • Blah Blah Blah

If you’re like me, this arrogance irritates you and you just leave. Ignoring the guide forever. If not, then please continue reading this so I may enlighten you on a few concepts you may or may not be aware of.

MISCONCEPTIONS

A guide is generally written by a mediocre DoTA player who wants to share his personal play style with his peer players. The same mediocre player will look at other’s guides to see their personal options and then take these guides to heart. The problem with this, is that with most opinions comes falsities. Often a hero will be criticized based on role or attack type:

“A support? No that’s lame, where’s viper?”
“Dude, we already have 3 carries! We need a support.”
“No, I got it, Dazzle doesn’t do any damage anyways.”

This. DoTA2 matchmaking at it’s finest. A misinformed player is not necessarily an ignorant player, just a misguided player. Often times a player provides themselves the notion that because a hero can attack you from a further range, that you automatically will be zoned from the lane. If this is the case then why are Nightstalker and Tiny so well at dominating mid lane? To answer this we have to look at the statistics and truths provided below.

ITEMS

Here is a list of SOME of the items that differentiate between melee and ranged heroes. Some have a quite small margin of difference, and some have a quite big impact on the play style of certain heroes.

Quelling Blade, bonus damage versus creeps: 32%

Vanguard, damage block: 40

Poor Man’s Shield, damage block: 20

Skull Basher, bash proc chance: 25%

Manta Style, illusions deal 33% damage and take 350% damage. Cooldown: 35 seconds.

Vladimir’s Offering, bonuses: lifesteal 16% and 15% bonus damage. Armor 5, mana regeneration 0.8.

Venom Orb, movement slow: 12%

Quelling Blade, bonus damage versus creeps: 12%

Vanguard, damage block: 20

Poor Man’s Shield, damage block: 10

Skull Basher, bash proc chance: 10%

Manta Style, illusions deal 28% damage and take 400% damage. Cooldown: 50 seconds.

Vladimir’s Offering, bonuses: Armor 5, mana regeneration 0.8.

Venom Orb, movement slow: 4%

MECHANICS

There are certain attack modifications and auras that only affect heroes of a certain attack type. Most of these modifications have quite the impact on a hero. I’ve prov >SOME of these mechanics.

Denied Creep Experience: 36

Vladimir’s Offering Melee Damage Bonus

Vladimir’s Offering Lifesteal

Skeleton King’s Lifesteal

Denied Creep Experience: 18

Drow Ranger’s Ranged Damage Bonus

Ranged Units, Chance to miss uphill: 25%

Skadi, Buffplacer (Can stack with Lifesteal orbs)

ORB WALK

Orb walking is a vital skill that allows ranged units to generate some severe harass. This mechanic is exploited by using the current spell system to work in your favor. Usually I’d write this section myself, but due to incompetence, I have brought in two sources to properly display this advanced technique:

” One of the strongest mechanics of some ranged carries is their ability to orb walk. An orb is a unique attack modifier that changes how your auto attacks will affect the enemy or yourself, such as lifesteal (Morbid Mask, Satanic), armor reduction (Deso), and movement slow (Orb of Venom, Skadi). Some ranged heroes, like Viper, Huskar, and Drow, have skills that are orbs you can toggle on and off to give unique orbs. The strength of these orbs is that they cost low mana and they count as spells. The reason why it is important that these orbs are spells is that they do not draw aggro from creeps when in lane. In a typical situation, if you right click to attack an enemy hero in the early game, the enemy creeps will re-aggro themselves to you instead of your allied creeps. When you cast a spell on an enemy, the aggro does not change. This is the real power behind orb walking; you can get free harass on the enemies in your lane while while not taking the counter attack from the enemy creeps.

Let’s use Clinkz as an example. Clinkz’s W, Searing Arrows, is an orb effect. To orb walk, simply press the W key on your keyboard, then left click on the enemy to cast it. This will allow for long range harass with no creep revenge. ” – Awes0meo

” Typically when you right-click on an enemy hero, the nearby creeps will agro you, and attack you. When you cast spells on enemy heroes this is not the case. Orb-Walking involves using abilities that have Unique Attack Modifiers. Select the ability once and click on an enemy hero, this is now cons >

FINAL THOUGHTS

I believe that within DoTA, every basic mechanic is balanced; and punishes the player appropriately. If you are being voided from your lane by Sniper, that’s all on you. I’m not saying that DoTA is completely balanced, obviously values change and updates happen often, but what I am saying is that; if you’re losing its not the game, its you.

If you have learned anything from this guide, or even if you just enjoyed the little rant, please give this a thumbs up so others may read this and also agree or disagree on this.

PLEASE READ

These gu >UNFINISHED , I still need feedback on how to better it. The opinions and such are always up for change, and your opinion is wanted as long as it’s not something that smashes the entire guide because you don’t like a little detail. Please keep in mind: if you have the time to read this guide and vote on it then you should have a sufficient amount of time to comment what pleased or displeased you.

TLDR:
Please take the time to provide feedback .
What can I change ? What areas need improvement ? Is the guide visually unappealing ?

StarLadder XII Final Day – Third place finish for Cloud 9

Bone7 and Cloud 9 has made it through to the top three to keep the Romanian crowds happy but they come up against their most important challenge yet, an elimination match against a strong Invictus Gaming. Only two matches remain and live coverage begins at 10:30 CEST.

StarLadder XII Day 2 – VG goes to finals, Team Tinker eliminated

Only four teams remain in the race of StarLadder XII, after the elimination of both Team MY and Alliance from the competition. Invictus Gaming and ViCi Gaming will cross their swords for the first Grand Final spot, while Team Tinker and Cloud9 will fight for their own survival in their Lower Bracket match.

StarLadder XII Day 2 – Cloud9 and Team Tinker stay in the race

StarLadder XII is turning into a terrible tournament for European teams with two already eliminated and the remaining two Cloud 9 and Alliance are forced to compete against each other for the privilege of reaching the next round. On the second stage Team MY are looking to bounce straight back with a win over American qualifiers Team Tinker.

StarLadder XII Day 2 – ViCi Gaming and Invictus Gaming dominate

With Secret eliminated it’s now time to focus on the upper bracket semi-finals. Cloud 9 are the only Western team still undefeated but face a massive challenge against the new roster of ViCi Gaming while Invictus Gaming and Team MY battle it out to discover who will continue their good form.

StarLadder XII Day 2 – Secret eliminated at the first stage

Bucharest will start seriously heating up with some must-win matches for the teams starting with an early morning elimination match between Team Secret and Alliance. A loss means they exit the tournament at the first stage, so both teams will come out fighting to remain in the competition.

The newest hero coming to Dota 2 is Sylph . and someone else as well

Valve confirmed two heroes at this year’s International

Share All sharing options for: The newest hero coming to Dota 2 is Sylph . and someone else as well

At this year’s International Dota 2 Championships, Valve once again took the opportunity to introduce a pair of new heroes to its free-to-play juggernaut.

While Valve did not name either hero in a trailer showed on stage following the day’s matches, one of them clearly resembled a frequently speculated on addition to the game.

Sylph has been rumored for some time, as references to the character appeared in Dota 2’s codebase in May of the this year. This also comes after Team Secret manager Matthew Bailey disclosed on Twitter that Valve informed players and organizations it would attempt to add more heroes more quickly to the game.

However, the trailer on display opened with a different, unknown hero debut, featuring a dapper, armadillo-inspired swashbuckler apparently also on the way to the game. Both heroes are expected to launch with the Dueling Fates Update patch expected some time after The International concludes this weekend.

Last year’s International featured the debut of the Abyssal Underlord and the announcement of Dota 2’s first truly new hero — i. e., one who wasn’t ported from the original DotA mod to Warcraft 3 over its decade of development — with Monkey King, who was released a short time later.

The 2017 International Dota 2 Championships continues tomorrow. You can read more about how to watch and understand Dota 2 with our primer.

How to watch The International 2017

As with just about any competitive video game now, the easiest way to watch The International is probably Twitch. However, there are arguably better ways to spectate the most financially lucrative esports tournament ever.

Valve is once again streaming every game of TI7 on Dota 2’s website. In addition to multiple versions and languages for each stream, you can also view each match with accompanying real-time information about the game in question, including hero levels, a live minimap, XP and gold graphs, and more.

If you’ve purchased The International Battle Pass within the Dota 2 client, not only have you contributed money to TI7’s massive prize pool, you’ve also bought a ticket to watch the tournament inside the game. Watching in-game gives you complete control of your view of the action, while also providing the same professional spectator experience and casting you’d get on Twitch or the Dota 2 site. Viewers who watch within Dota 2 can also earn prizes for specific in-game events, make predictions on various aspects of each match, and win battle points and more prizes.

Valve has created a unique spectator experience just for you, if you’ve got an HTC Vive and have Dota 2 installed. I’ll let my colleague Ben Kuchera tell you about it:

Watching battles take place around you is thrilling, even though it can be a bit hard to keep track of everything that’s going on. The interface makes it easy for you to switch views or jump back and forth from the in-person view to the lobby as well; it only took me a few minutes to get used to moving back and forth to get the best view of the action. It’s like being able to watch a football game on TV with the ability to jump onto the field at any time to see what it looks like from the quarterback’s point of view.

Dota 2 Top 5 Pudge Players of all time

After recently covering too many professional Top ‘this’ and Top ‘that’ in Dota 2, we thought about writing for the most beloved hero of all. Dota 2 players around the world, even though the best or the worst have at least tried a hook or two with the butcher. Yes, Pudge is the most played hero in Dota 2 and we are here to tell you the top 5 Pudge players you should watch next time you want to learn how to play Pudge.

Black^
First stop is Black^. Currently playing for mousesports, Black^ is a guy that can play with almost any hero. And that is why Pudge is no stranger to him as well. No matter how important the match, if the team wants a roaming nuke then Pudge is nothing but heaven for Black. Being able to dominate early game, Black’s Pudge allows his team to just snowball like crazy. His Hook percentage is pretty insane as well allowing him to position himself for the best possible outcome. Black has an astonishing 62% winrate with Pudge. Even though we don’t see Pudge very often but this is a pocket strat that can be of use anytime. Here’s just a glimpse of what devastation Black^ can bring with his Pudge.

FoREv
Players don’t know much about FoRev but he definitely is one of the best Pudge players out there. With amazing skills and predictions, FoRev is just a nightmare when it comes to his Pudge. FoRev is a key player in Team MVP and we want him to stay that way, so that he can own. FoReV sits with the highest win rate for Pudge at an astounding 75%. We probably won’t see much of his Pudge in competitive games, but who cares? As long as we see Pudge owning the crap out of the enemy team we are happy with it. FoRev does absolutely what we want, ANNIHILATION.

w33haa
You guys mostly know him for his insane Meepo, but trust me; w33haa is absolutely not limited to that uglier version of Tyrion Lannister. The Europe’s best Dota 2 player, well in terms of leader boards is amazing when it comes to hooking enemies from where they didn’t even know. It’s been quite some time w33haa has played Pudge but, whenever he does there is nothing more fun to watch. w33haa has a 60% win rate with the old man and his Pudge is as scary as his Meepo. Here’s a look;

The Magical hexOr
Back in the days of DotA, this guy was probably the best Pudge player, showing off his skills with the name of hOlyhexOr. There is almost no one who has ever dreamt of playing a good Pudge and hasn’t watched hexOr’s insane plays with Pudge. Even though there are tons of wannabe Pudge players out there, no one is even close to the skills that hexOr has with this hero.

Dendi
Well, who doesn’t know Dendimon for his Pudge skills? Dendi was the reason people actually thought of picking Pudge in professional matches. Being able to create strategies around the hero, Dendi is the most fearsome Pudge player out there. The historical Pudge and Chen combo that was introduced for the first time in Dota 2 history created a mark of what wonders Dendi can make with the hero. Dendi currently has a 62% winrate with the hero, but who cares for numbers when it’s Dendi’s Pudge.

Can’t Hook cause you are lagging? Try Kill Ping and you won’t miss your hooks. EVER!

The mother of all MOBA games, Defense of the Ancients is the tale of a gaming revolution.

A review by Peter

From the development company Blizzard comes Defense of the Ancients or DotA, a multiplayer online battle arena mod for the video game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and the expansion Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. Since it’s release in 2003 the game was a huge success worldwide and has shaped the online gaming ever since.

The gameplay consists of two teams fighting each other, the Sentinel and the Scourge. Each team has a unique set of heroes to choose from and each Hero has a unique ability set and playstyle. The goal of the match is to destroy your enemy’s “Ancient” that results in victory. The 3 paths leading to the Ancients are guarded by 6 towers in total and each path has a wave of units that spawns periodically. By killing these units or enemy Heroes you earn gold which you can use to buy different items and recipes from different shops found on the map. These items strengthen your Hero by adding additional Agility, Strength, Intelligence, Speed etc.

Killing the spawned units also gives you XP which levels up your Hero, granting him new abilities and improving his stats. Buying items and forging them with recipes based on your Hero’s primary attribute (Strength, Agility, Intelligence) is crucial for gaining the upper hand in battle. Working well with your teammates is also essential. Since online lobbies can carry up to 5vs5 player battles, good teamwork and coordination make all the difference.

Ever since the compendium update, I have been experiencing difficulty loading into a game or a live match in Dota 2. After waiting for all players to accept game or click watch on a live match I go into loading screen with “loading. ” prompt on the lower right side. The prompt disappears after a while but I am still stuck on the loading screen image. Waiting it out brings me back to the main menu after a few minutes sometime s saying that i got disconnected from the server. Pressing escape removes the loading screen image and turns it into a black screen with my net graph in its usual position, to which, I am stuck until I get back to main menu.

I play on a lenovo y500 laptop:
i7 3rd gen quad core 3.2 GHz
8g ram
SLI: 2x(2GB Nvidia GeForce GT650M)

I have tried reinstalling whole steam and dota 2, disabling my antivirus and firewall and disabling SLI and even updating my GPU driver to the latest GeForce 337.88, but nothing fixes it. I laod fine into a bot match and doing it first sometimes makes it easier to load fast and properly to matchmaking and live games after but it’s not 100%. I am really confused about what the problem is. please help me

What about your internet connection? Do you use an router that blocks your game? What bw do you use? Internet provider?

1.5mbps accd to speedtest. net. And I think my internet is not the problem though because I have low ping and I don’t lag in games once i actually successfully connect to one.

BTW i realized that I can enter into console during the black screen and I see these red texts:

The 5 best comeback games in Dota 2 history

The kings of close games

The Swedish edition of Ninjas in Pyjamas were notorious for close games and big comebacks. It always seemed to be the way that their matches ended with either both ancients exposed, or with the losing team harbouring mega-creeps.

A YouTube search will show you endless games where NiP are pressuring the ancient, taking fight after fight, but always seem to end up on the losing side of some of the closest games imaginable.

Taking place in the lower bracket final of the Frankfurt Major European Qualifier, Alliance and NiP have it out in what went down as one of the more tense comebacks Dota had seen. It also provided the quintessential Alliance viewing experience. NiP threw bodies at the barracks, eventually taking mega-creeps.

An iconic loss

In the lower bracket of TI4, the famous DK* side faced up against LGD, a game they were expected to win. Sitting at a comfortable 25k gold lead in the first game, LGD were certainly down, but not out.

A series of teamfights were taken in favour of LGD, coupled with a few bad decisions from Team DK saw LGD back on track to even the game out. With an Alchemist on the team rapidly gaining control, DK couldn’t stabilise their performance, and provided the world with a comeback to stand the test of time.

DK would go on to win the series, but lose to Vici Gaming in the next round, and shortly disband after the competition.

Dagon Danger

Evil Geniuses had the run of a lifetime at TI6. Although they won games, the real winners were well and truly the spectators. Facing off against EHOME in the upper bracket semi-finals, EG were against mega-creeps after an already intensely close 71 minutes of Dota

Going down in history as one of the best games ever played, Peter ‘ppd’ Dager and team made a decision that had scarcely been seen. Opting to build dagons on multiple heroes, they turned the game around in one of the most exciting comebacks imaginable.

EG’s TI dream

EG’s exciting run at TI6 didn’t even peak with their game against EHOME. It’d be tough to beat how exciting the last comeback was, but this series managed just that. In game 3 of the semi-finals of TI6 – the winner taking their place in the final – EG faced up against underdogs Digital Chaos.

EG looked to secure their second TI final in succession, after winning TI5, and it all came down to this game. EG looked to be ahead, with Clinton ‘Fear’ Loomis on Terrorblade outfarming the rest. EG aimed to pressure the midlane and close out the game.

However, some excellent decision making from DC, some superb delaying tactics left EG pressuring mid and attempting to slowly siege the base. David ‘Moo’ Hull on Beastmaster, arguably the MVP of the game, was able to pressure the EG base during fights, and successfully took towers and barracks.

EG looked in control of the game. Moo’s decision making changed everything, and it meant everything in the careers of the DC players.

The longest game in the history of Dota

If you haven’t heard of this game, it’s about time you did. Back in 2015, Cloud9 G2A* played ScaryFaceZZZ* for three hours, and twenty minutes. It was, and still is, the longest game in professional Dota. Greatest comeback dota 2 magpakailanman november

The game wasn’t the most exciting, and other games have been closer, but this game defined mental fortitude. Purely for the sheer weight of the victory for the winning team, after committing almost three and a half hours to playing only the second game in a series, it had to make it to our best comebacks of all time.

Playing with a barrack deficit from just under the 40 minute mark, and being pressured for just about the remaining 2 hours and 40 minutes of the game, this victory for the CIS side wasn’t just hard fought, but it was clawed at, battled and eventually earned.

With every buyback causing a 7 minute ceasefire, both teams wanted the win, but only one could come out on top.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 2200G (@ 3.7 GHz)
Placa madre: GIGABYTE GA-AB350M-Gaming 3
RAM: G. Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB (2x8GB) 3200 CL14 (@ 2933 CL14)
SSD: Kingston 120GB SSDNOW 300
HDD: Western Digital 2GB Blue
Fuente: Corsair CX650 Bronze
Driver: AMD Radeon 17.7 Feb 12

Extra: 2do Preset Automático versus 2do Preset 100% UI Scale
